Types of cameras. What camera to buy? [photography nugget]

The holidays are fast approaching.. a couple of my friends and officemates are planning to buy their own cameras and are asking suggestions on what to choose. As an answer, I write this blog post for everyone who will be receiving their 13th to 16th month pays this December and will be buying a photographic tool for themselves... ~ Let's start ~

Choosing a camera to buy can sometimes be frustrating given the many options in the current market (types, brand, models, features, etc.). So before jumping into the DSLR bandwagon, let's know more about the different types of cameras that are widely popular and available today so that you can decide what type of camera will best fit you. :)

I'd like to give four categories of cameras and describe them, including their pros and cons based from my personal experience. The categories are:

1. Compact point-and-shoot cameras

2. Bridge/superzoom cameras

3. Mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras

4. DSLRs

Canon Gear 2012

Took a photo of my Canon gear before selling them (lenses). I'm switching to M43 this November/December! :D  Saving up for a Panasonic Lumix GF1 + 20mm 1.7 instead since I can't afford an Olympus OM-D EM-5 right now.

The GF1+20mm kit is already phased-out for a long time but I know where to buy a brand new one. I think it's the last one here in the Philippines. lol ;)

Tip:

- Unless you are trying out a specific food menu item, put their best seller items on top of your order list (the one with the star symbol on their menu). Ordered I.B.J. (not a best seller) since I wasn't able to taste it last time. After finishing the meal, I really hoped that I had ordered a best seller instead. :D  Still completely satisfied! Grilled goodness! :d
